Back from our sick tripFebruary 26th, 2013 @ 9:39 pm

Our annual Malaysian trip was pretty eventful. Upon arriving in KL, Kelsey was having high fever for 3 days. Then Terry was coughing so much and having all the flu symptoms that he was having pneumonia. And he has lost his appetite and his sinuses were causing his pain. After a few days, I had to beg him to go to the hospital to consult a doctor after he told me he coughed up quite a bit of blood. During this period, Malaika and I were ok. I had reserved restaurants to pig out but sadly the boss didn’t have much appetite. And we were in a foul mood – stuck in a hotel room because of the sick bugs.
After almost of week in KL (we had paid for the room), we drove to my hometown. Just then, Malaika started to have a high temperature. Her fever lasted almost 6 days. During this time, she was coughing pretty bad. Sometimes, the cough with phlegm woke her up from sleep. Normally, I would not give her med. After a couple of days, I bought some cough medicine from a pharmacy. We were hoping that she could recover just in time to have some fun in PD, unfortunately she was still sick. Luckily she didn’t have fever on the 2nd day when we were in PD. She managed to have some fun in the pool and beach afterall.
Then, we went back to Melaka. Everybody seemed to be recovered. Terry’s appetite had returned too. Phew .. Too bad, my older nephew caught the fever bug, he was having fever after the PD trip. My mum was having sore throat too. Just when I thought the worst was over for us, Kelsey started to have his diarrhea episode. It was pretty bad. He had to rush to the toilet more than 30 times a day. The worst was during sleep time. He went to the toilet every hour. Both of us were exhausted. During day time, Terry took over the cleaning the butt roll. I thought the diarrhea episode should subside within a couple of days. Well, it didn’t. After 3 days, before we our flight to Dubai, I went to a pharmacy to buy some anti diarrhea med and probiotic for him. I wanted to bring him to see a doctor, but the boss didn’t really want to. I was getting worried. During this time, he ate and drank normally. So I didn’t insist on visiting the doctor.
During our flight from KL to Dubai, the boy had some poo-py accidents in the pants. Then about 30 mins before landing, he wanted to go to the toilet desperately but was not allowed to. The air stewardess handed us some diapers and tissue paper. He had to do his messy business in the diaper. He didn’t like it, because he is off diaper for quite some time.
During our few days stay in Dubai, Kelsey was still having loose stools despite taking medicine. He started to have blood in the stool. And heading to toilet frequency didn’t subside either. I was really worried. Just the night before our flight back, I finally had sometime to browse the web, and googled severe diarrhae in children, I was alarmed to find out that we needed to bring Kelsey to the doctor once he had blood in his stool. When we woke up, getting ready for our flight home, I told Terry that we had to stop by the clinic to see the doctor on our way home. I didn’t want to wait till the following Monday. Just then, his stools were getting more solid and less frequent. Finally he had recovered!
Despite the sick bugs, we managed to go to Kidszania, meeting up with Yvonne and family, went to PD with my family – the very first family trip, meeting up with high school besties and had some great food and spent some time in Dubai to recuperate before flying home.
